Clouds of Smoke

We were discussing the inability to communicate with a leader on his team. This seasoned executive described it this way:
“He communicates in a smoke that creates clouds of uncertainty and stifles clarity.”
He went on to articulate that the “clouds of smoke” then inhibit the team’s ability to have hard conversations that are needed to address difficult issues.
As a young man growing up, my Dad used to instruct me to “say what you mean and mean what you say.” This old adage still rings true today.
With our multiple means of communicating and our rapid pace of business, creating clarity is extremely important. This means taking the time to be intentional about communicating with those in our professional and personal relationships.
What would happen if we communicated with clarity our desires, intentions, and opinions? What if we could have straightforward, honest, respectful, conversations in every area of our lives?
Choose to create clarity instead of “smoke” in your communication, and you will make a difference!
