The Struggle in Our Country

Let's be honest. It's a mess. We are in a place in our country (I realize some of you are not in the U.S. but are aware of what is happening here.) that we have never been. At least not in our life time. It appears that there is more polarization and dissension in this election than we have seen in a long time. While it is very important for all of us to vote our convictions, I believe that what happens after the election is even more important. I have walked with leaders through all kinds of situations. I have witnessed great leaders who were at the pinnacle of their careers, and I have walked with leaders who were experiencing despair, disappointment, and difficultly. If we live long enough, we all will journey through both success and failure as leaders. A wise leader told me that in his early years, he spent much time trying to avoid and prevent obstacles and hard things in his life. Then he realized that it was not about avoiding and preventing. It is about walking through. We need leaders who will step up on Wednesday, the day after the election, with a commitment to lead with integrity, strength, and compassion. We need leaders who understand that the fabric of our country is made up of people, not politics. No matter who wins and who loses, our vision, mission, and calling should not waver. We must remember that how we lead each day is a reflection of our heart and soul. I will hold on to the teachings of the greatest leader of all time: "In this world you will struggle, but don't worry, because I have overcome the world." - Jesus May God bless our country, and may He raise up leaders who will make a difference!
