The Resilient Women Holding South Sudan Together

Though the media tends to focus on the blood-filled disputes of men in South Sudan, there is a resilient thread that holds the country’s fibers together: their women.
Every day, these incredible ladies battle malnourishment to fetch water and housing materials, cook and clean for their families, and give birth to their many children despite little to no medical care and some of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.
The life expectancy for South Sudanese women is only in the mid-fifties, and their lives are commonly rife with mortal risks and insecurities, yet they smile often and are quick to humor.
