Reach Out for Help

One of the unique aspects of our work is that we have the opportunity to walk with leaders through incredibly diverse situations. We celebrate with them when things are going well, and we walk beside them through the tough times.
Recently, a leader (let's call him T) was in a difficult position. Things were at a crisis point within his organization, and those who were in power were looking for someone to blame for this situation. He found himself squarely in the crosshairs of panicked and reactionary leadership.
While T is brilliant and seasoned in his industry, he found himself at a crucible point in his leadership. It is at this point that the true character and wisdom of any leader will be exposed.
T could have taken the route of giving blame or becoming a victim. Instead, because of his confidence and character, he chose to reach out for help. He leaned into his team and then sought outside counsel for options and ideas. He was vulnerable enough to allow someone to speak into his life and strong enough to lead his team through an incredibly difficult situation.
I wish I could tell you that T has made it through this crossroads and is on the other side with flaming success. The truth is that he is still in the middle of a very hard time for his team and organization. However, I do know that regardless of the outcome of this situation, T is leading well through this intense storm. At the end of the day, isn't that what truly matters?
Choose to allow the people you trust to speak into your life when walking through difficult circumstances, and you will make a difference.
